CANstruction 2016: Call for Entries

ENTRY DEADLINE: Friday, June 17, 5:00 PM – Apply via the Washington Architecture Foundation

Canstruction is a nationwide program that aims to raise awareness about hunger. In DC, Canstruction is organized by the Washington Architectural Foundation as a creative design-build competition that benefits the Capital Area Food Bank through donations of canned goods. Teams from architecture and design firms from Washington, DC use their skills to build sculptures out of cans of food. The nutritious shelf-stable food is donated to the Capital Area Food Bank for distribution to those in need after the event. Apply to participate in this year’s event that will take place over Thanksgiving week at the National Building Museum!

2016 THEME: Movie Night
CANstruction Dates: Sunday, November 20 – Monday, November 28, 2016

SPONSORED BY: Washington Architectural Foundation and the Society for Design Administration
CONTRIBUTORS: National Building Museum, TW Perry, Safeway
ELIGIBILITY: Any Washington DC-area architecture, design, construction, or engineering firm may sponsor a team (with 5 official participants). At least one member of the team must be an AIA or Associate AIA member. Firms may join forces to sponsor teams.
ENTRY FEE: $300 per team, nonrefundable. Teams are responsible for purchasing their own canned goods.
• Sunday, Nov. 20th: Build-out Marathon Build Out. Sandwiches, beverages and sweets shall be provided to keep the building going into the afternoon. You’ll build on an 8′ x 8′ platform.
• Monday, Nov. 28th: Lunchtime De-CANstruction Bring your entire office to assist the Capital Area Food Bank in this monumental effort
